The Botanical Way Natural Dye Recipe with Turmeric

My latest recipe card utilises the fabulous spice Turmeric. Turmeric is from the ginger family and the powder form is created from the root, it has natural anti-inflammatory properties. It is also a powerful dye stuff, having been used for centuries to produce deep vibrant yellow-gold hues.

As a common kitchen spice, therefore non-toxic, and readily available in powder or root form I thought it would be another easy introduction into using natural materials for dyeing fabrics. As always the colours you get depend on the amount used, whether you use heat, and the length of time you leave the fabrics in the dye pot.

The full recipe on how to use the turmeric to dye with can now be purchased in my online shop, along with a dye kit of ribbons and fabric to get you started.
